NBC Universal on the Rebound
Fresh from the nasty breakup of its stormy marriage with Apple iTunes, NBC Universal has found new love in the arms of another eCommerce behemoth - none other than Amazon and their dreaded Unbox.
Amazon is offering the greater flexibility in pricing (probably because they haven’t figured theirs out yet) that Apple said was a deal breaker. Unfortunately, Amazon may have a few breakers of their own between them and the ultimate justice of the peace - the consumer. Aside from its unfortunate name, the Unbox has suffered from scattered service problems, including lengthy waits for downloads. While Amazon has solved many of the problems, the service is still limited in one important aspect: It is not compatible with Appleās iPods, which are by far the most popular portable video players.
Unbox allows consumers to rent or buy video for viewing on a personal computer or certain portable video players. Unbox can also deliver video directly to TV sets through TiVo devices.
